BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Buffalo Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen skated with his teammates Thursday for the first time since open heart surgery three months ago.

The 39-year-old Numminen was cleared to practice after visiting the Cleveland Clinic on Monday and following up with team doctors on Wednesday. Sabres coach Lindy Ruff estimates it will be at least a month before Numminen is ready to return to the lineup.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Bruins second-leading scorer Marco Sturm was hit near the eye with the puck in the first period and didn't return in Boston's 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.

After the game, Boston coach Claude Julien said Sturm's eye was at first completely swollen shut, but shortly after was able to open it. Julien said he didn't believe Sturm would miss the Bruins' next game at Atlanta on Wednesday night.
