Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - Pat Burrell's two-run homer in the sixth inning provided the difference, as the Philadelphia Phillies edged the Cincinnati Reds, 3-2, in the second of a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park. Adam Eaton (2-3) limited the Reds to three hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings for Philadelphia, which improved to 7-1 on its 10-game homestand and has won eight of nine overall. Eaton also struck out five and walked none to pick up his second straight win. Jimmy Rollins finished 3-for-4 w

Griffey sit on 599 again Headlines 06/03/2008

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Ken Griffey Jr., one homer shy of 600, is not expected to start for the Cincinnati Reds for the second consecutive day.

The 38-yea-old outfielder played in 54 of Cincinnati's first 57 games, but he sat out of the first game of a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night because of general soreness.

Reds manager Dusty Baker said Griffey could be back in the lineup Wednesday night and was available to pinch hit on Tuesday.

The only other players to hit 600 hom

Reds place Mercker back on DL MLB Baseball 06/03/2008
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - The Cincinnati Reds placed relief pitcher Kent Mercker on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday with lower back pain. It is the second stint on the DL with lower back pain for Mercker, who just came off the shelf on May 29th. The 40-year-old left-hander had been sidelined since May 9 with the injury, only to come off the DL for less than a week. Mercker has a 3.29 earned run average in 15 appearances this season for the Reds, his third campaign with the club. To fill his rost

(MySportsbook) - Despite sitting nine games back of the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central, the Cincinnati Reds have a lot going for them, courtesy of several young stars in the making. Brandon Phillips, 26, has already made a name for himself at second base and he heads a talented young crew that includes the likes of Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Edinson Volquez and Johnny Cueto. After spending several seasons between the minors and the Cleveland Indians, Phillips found his way to Cincinnati and was

ention program until finally being granted permission to participate with a major league ballclub full-time two years later. During that period of strife, Hamilton's tattered and torn feet desperately needed a soft sole to comfortably rest upon. The Cincinnati Reds became the Dr. Scholl's to Hamilton's lower extremities in 2007, when the southern boy got a shot with the ballclub at the big league level. Hamilton did so well last season (.292, 19 HR, 47 RBI) for the Reds he was nominated by his peers for Comeba
Utley continues with long balls as Phils dump Reds MLB Baseball 06/02/2008
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - Chase Utley continued his power surge with his fifth home run in five games then helped save the game with a diving stab, as the Philadelphia Phillies held off the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4, in the initial contest of a four-game set. A warm night in Philadelphia brought the bats out at hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park -- the site of five home runs in the game's first five frames. One of those came from Philadelphia's likeliest source as of late. While one didn't come off the b
Chicago Cubs keep winning at Wrigley Field Headlines 06/02/2008

Alfonso Soriano and the Chicago Cubs are piling up wins at Wrigley Field. Ditto for Ken Griffey Jr. and the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.

The Braves can't wait to get back to Atlanta after another dismal road trip.

Soriano homered, Jim Edmonds drove in two runs, and Chicago beat the reeling Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Sunday to complete a perfect seven-game homestand.

Griffey remained at 599 career homers but Jay Bruce connected to help Cincinnati beat Atlanta 6-2 for its 12th win in its la

Atlanta can only hope some home cooking can garner some victories, as it was just swept in three games by the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend at Great American Ballpark. In Sunday's 6-2 loss in the series finale, Braves starter Tim Hudson gave up seven hits and four runs -- three earned -- with three strikeouts and three walks in six-plus innings of work. (MySportsbook) - Ken Griffey Jr. brings his historic home run chase to Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park, as the Cincinnati Reds take on the Phillies tonight in the first of four consecutive games. Griffey belted his 599th career home run over the weekend and is trying to become the sixth player to reach the illustrious 600-homer club. He is one good swing away from joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa with 600 career home runs. Griffey's last homer came during an 8-7, 10-i
