Xanders would welcome empowered GM role NFL Football 12/18/2010

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Denver Broncos general manager Brian Xanders was Josh McDaniels' right-hand man, yet had his hands tied when it came to personnel decisions.

McDaniels had the final say on all roster matters.

So when the coach was fired earlier this month, Xanders was kept on, his value evidenced by the decision by the Broncos to have him attend league meetings in Dallas this week. Now, he's hoping to be kept on even longer - as the team's general manager.

Denver QB Orton listed as questionable for Sunday NFL Football 12/17/2010
Englewood, CO (MySportsbook) - Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders. Orton was limited in practice all week by bruised ribs suffered in last week's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The sixth-year signal-caller out of Purdue has completed 293-of-498 passes for 3,653 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions during the first 13 games of the season. Safeties David Bruton (ribs) and Darcel McBath (quad) are also listed as questionable for

The Silver and Black have stumbled a bit since a 5-4 start, losing three of their last four games, but still remain alive in the postseason race as they host the AFC West-rival Denver Broncos this Sunday from the Oakland Coliseum. The Raiders still have a shot at capturing their first postseason berth since 2002, but will need some help around the league getting there. Arizona's regression was illustrated by a seven-game losing streak that marked the franchise's longest skid since 2006, but the Cardinals will be heading east on a positive note after burying the disheveled Denver Broncos in a 43-13 rout this past Sunday in youngster John Skelton's first NFL start under center. Orton says he's sore but not injured NFL Football 12/15/2010

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton says he's sore but not injured and insisted, ``I don't have a dead arm,'' when asked about his poor play the last two weeks.

Orton has gone from a prolific passer to a pedestrian one in losses at Kansas City and Arizona sandwiched around the firing of his biggest booster, Josh McDaniels, who was sent packing amid the team's worst skid in four decades and the Spygate II videotaping scandal.
