Jaguars sign LB Keith Mitchell; Douglas next? NFL Football 03/14/2003
Jacksonville, FL (MySportsbook) - The Jacksonville Jaguars made their second linebacker signing in as many days Friday when they inked free agent Keith Mitchell to a one-year contract. Mitchell, who played last season for the Houston Texans, was given a deal that will pay him a $250,000 signing bonus and a $750,000 salary. Despite a shoulder injury last season, Mitchell started in seven of the 11 games he played in and had one sack. A Pro Bowl selection in 2000 while with the Saints, Mitchell spent the fir
Foreman re-signs with Texans NFL Football 03/04/2003
Houston, TX (MySportsbook) - Jay Foreman signed a five-year contract Tuesday to stay with the Houston Texans. In 2002, the linebacker posted a team-high 193 tackles. Foreman, who was acquired in a trade with Buffalo, started all 16 games at right inside linebacker for the Texans in their inaugural season. In five NFL seasons, Foreman has registered 348 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and six passes defensed.
Texans sign Wiegert NFL Football 03/01/2003
Houston, TX (MySportsbook) - The Houston Texans signed free-agent offensive lineman Zach Wiegert on Saturday. Wiegert, who had spent the last four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, will be reunited with Texans head coach Dom Capers. Capers served as Jacksonville's defensive coordinator from 1999-2000. "I've spent some time with coach Capers and have always been impressed with him," Wiegert said. "Hopefully I can help this offensive line be a more consistent, more physical offensive line. I just want t
Bills sign linebacker Jeff Posey NFL Football 02/28/2003
Orchard Park, NY (MySportsbook) - The Buffalo Bills signed free agent linebacker Jeff Posey to a four-year contract on Friday. Posey, who was an unrestricted free agent, registered 60 tackles, eight sacks and one interception last season for the Houston Texans. He entered the NFL in 1998 with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. Posey, 6'4" and 250 pounds, spent three seasons with 49ers before splitting the 2001 season in Carolina and Jacksonville. In 75 career games, Posey has 11 sacks.
Texans release safety Matt Stevens NFL Football 02/27/2003
Houston, TX (MySportsbook) - The Houston Texans released safety Matt Stevens on Thursday, although the team will try to re-sign him later this offseason. Stevens, who was selected in last year's expansion draft, recorded 117 tackles last season, good for fourth on the team. The seven-year veteran has also played for New England, Washington, Philadelphia and Buffalo. The Texans also tendered contract offers to wide receivers Avion Black, JaJuan Dawson, cornerback Pat Dennis, tight end Billy Miller, punter C

ike Fargas are getting the opportunity to improve their draft-day stock. As for the former Michigan Wolverine, it's fairly certain that his name has been transferred from the sleeper list to the group of quality rushers. WHAT'S HAPPENING WILLIS? The Houston Texans, who hold the third overall selection in April's draft, were more than a little upset when McGahee tore up his knee in the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. GM Charley Casserly had his sights set on drafting the talented Miami rusher with the third pi
Jermaine Lewis cut by Texans NFL Football 02/20/2003
Houston, TX (MySportsbook) - The Houston Texans have released wide receiver/kick returner Jermaine Lewis. Lewis was selected from the Baltimore Ravens as the sixth pick in the 2002 expansion draft. He was used primarily as a kick returner last season and averaged 7.8 yards on 36 punt returns and 20.9 yards on 46 kickoff returns. The two-time Pro Bowl selection was a key contributor in the Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV victory, returning a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown in a 34-7 win over the New York Giants. L
Houston Texans Free Agency Preview NFL Football 02/13/2003
(MySportsbook) - The Houston Texans enjoyed a successful first NFL season. The expansion franchise won four games in 2002, including a Week 1 triumph over in-state rival Dallas. The offense didn't do very much and David Carr was sacked more than any other quarterback, but the first overall pick in last year's draft showed great promise. On the flip side, Dom Capers' defense was probably the best expansion defense ever. DL Gary Walker and CB Aaron Glenn both made the Pro Bowl. Charley Casserly and Capers ha
Boselli's contract restructured NFL Football 02/11/2003
Houston, TX (MySportsbook) - The Houston Texans announced Tuesday that the team and five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tony Boselli have reached an agreement on a restructured contract. Boselli, the Texans' first selection in last February's expansion draft, sat out the entire 2002 season with a shoulder injury. He missed the final 13 games of the 2001 season in Jacksonville with the same injury. "I'm happy to have reached an agreement and I'm ready to move ahead," said Boselli. "I'm looking forward to wo

surance policy two weeks before the Hurricanes' overtime loss to Ohio State in the national championship game. He said in Tuesday's statement that he will not collect on the policy. The injury will still likely cost McGahee up to $10 million, as the Houston Texans were reportedly interested in landing him with the No. 3 overall selection, and would have rewarded him with a lucrative signing bonus. The injury will drop his worth in the April draft. Meanwhile, the jump for Johnson is more expected. The junior l
