Happy father's day: Steelers' defense off to a good start NFL Football 09/10/2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) -Not many NFL players refer to their coach as Dad, yet that is what defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is called in the Pittsburgh Steelers' locker room.

Coach Dad, to be precise.

So when the Steelers realized LeBeau's 70th birthday fell on the day of their season opener Sunday in Cleveland, his players decided to do something special. Even more special than those LeBeau throwback uniforms they wore to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last month to lobby for the former Detroit Lions defensive ba

Still, the approach left the $32 million free-agent acquisition idle during critical plays in overtime. Washington took the kickoff and drove 58 yards in 10 plays for a field goal to win 16-13.

Always outspoken in eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Porter made it clear he hasn't changed.

``I've never been in a situation since I've been playing professional football where a game is on the line and I'm watching it from the sideline,'' he said.

The plan was to use Porter only in certain pack

Roethlisberger, Steelers rout Browns in Tomlin's debut NFL Football 09/10/2007
Cleveland, OH (MySportsbook) - The Mike Tomlin era began with a win on Sunday, as Ben Roethlisberger completed 12-of-23 passes for 161 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 34-7 rout of the Cleveland Browns. Willie Parker added 109 yards on 27 carries for the Steelers (1-0), who played for the first time under new head coach Tomlin, hired during the offseason to replace longtime coach Bill Cowher, who retired. Browns punter to miss season opener NFL Football 09/08/2007

CLEVELAND (AP) -Cleveland Browns punter Dave Zastudil will not play in the team's season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday because of a back injury.

Zastudil's back injury limited his participation in practice in the week leading up to the team's regular season debut. He had been listed as questionable by the team Friday.

Zastudil, in his second year with the Browns, enjoyed a strong campaign last season, averaging a career-high 44 yards per kick. He played in all 16 games for Cleveland last

Tomlin Gets an Early Taste of Browns-Steelers Rivalry NFL Football 09/07/2007
(MySportsbook) - An AFC North battle is on tap for the first weekend of the 2007 NFL season, as the Pittsburgh Steelers pay a visit to Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sunday for a showdown with their longtime rivals. Mike Tomlin will make his regular-season debut as the Steelers' 16th head coach in franchise history on Sunday. Tomlin, who was given the reigns in January, is just the third head coach for Pittsburgh since 1969, as both Chuck Knoll and Bill Cowher left their mark in the Steel City with long and succes
