McNeill inks five-year deal with Chargers NFL Football 10/13/2010
San Diego, CA (MySportsbook) - San Diego Chargers offensive tackle Marcus McNeill came to terms on a lucrative five-year contract Wednesday. The deal, which is worth as much as $48.5 million with guarantees totaling $24.5 million, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, will keep him in a Chargers uniform through the 2015 season. The two-time Pro Bowl selection ended his lengthy holdout September 25 by signing his one-year, $630,000 tender contract. McNeill missed San Diego's first two regular season games w
Chargers on 5th long snapper this season NFL Football 10/13/2010

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Chargers are on their fifth long snapper of the season.

The Chargers signed rookie Mike Windt and released Ethan Albright on Wednesday, three days after having two punts blocked in a 35-27 loss at Oakland. One blocked punt bounced through the end zone for a safety and the other was returned for a touchdown, helping Oakland to a quick 12-0 lead.

Windt went to training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals and was released in late August.

Chargers and Merriman to part ways NFL Football 10/13/2010
San Diego, CA (MySportsbook) - The San Diego Chargers took a step towards divorcing themselves from linebacker Shawne Merriman on Wednesday. The franchise placed the six-year veteran on injured reserve with a minor- injury designation, meaning that when the team and Merriman agree he is recovered from a bothersome calf issue, he will be released and will be able to sign with any team as a free agent. "I have been blessed to call San Diego my home for the past six years," Merriman said in a statement. "I can't
Chargers turn lights out on 'Lights Out' Merriman NFL Football 10/13/2010

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Chargers have turned out the lights on the player known as ``Lights Out.''

Outside linebacker Shawne Merriman, once one of the most-feared players in the NFL, was placed on the injured reserve list with a calf injury and a ``minor-injury designation'' on Wednesday. Merriman must be released once he's healthy, the team said.

Technically, the Chargers could re-sign the controversial player. That almost certainly won't happen, though, because general manager A.J. Smith hasn't be

Injuries at wide receiver have forced the Rams to alter that timetable, and on Sunday the former Missouri star wide receiver might make his NFL debut. Coach Steve Spagnuolo was non-committal about Alexander's chances of playing against the San Diego Chargers.

Alexander is on the roster. He replaces Mark Clayton, who was placed on injured reserve with a torn patella tendon in his right knee. Top deep threat Donnie Avery went on IR in the preseason with a knee injury.Copyright © 2005 The Associated

Line of Scrimmage: Week 6 - Raiders turning corner? NFL Football 10/13/2010
Philadelphia, PA (MySportsbook) - Before Sunday's 35-27 upset, the Oakland Raiders had not felt the sensation of beating the AFC West rival San Diego Chargers since way back in 2003. They are, however, familiar with the notion of perceived progress. In just about every one of their seven consecutive seasons of double-digit losses, the Silver and Black did something to suggest they were about to break out of their funk. Even in other portions of the 33-game tenure of head coach Tom Cable - now the longest for a
Merriman's run with Chargers ends Headlines 10/13/2010

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Shawne Merriman's career with the San Diego Chargers is over.

The Chargers say they have placed the outside linebacker on the injured reserve list with a calf injury and a ``minor-injury designation.'' The team says that means Merriman must be released when he becomes healthy.

Once one of the most-feared players in the NFL, Merriman has been dogged by injuries the last three seasons.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. The information contained in the AP News re

Chargers sign WR Goodman from practice squad NFL Football 10/12/2010

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Chargers have signed receiver Richard Goodman from the practice squad to the active roster.

The addition of Goodman apparently is an attempt to shore up the Chargers' porous special teams. Goodman played well during the exhibition season as a kickoff returner and on kick coverage.

The Chargers have given up two kickoff returns and one punt return for touchdowns this season. They also had two punts blocked in a loss at Oakland on Sunday, with one bouncing through the end zone

Raiders rally to end 13-game skid against Chargers NFL Football 10/11/2010

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - After winning 13 straight games against the Oakland Raiders, the San Diego Chargers gave one away to their AFC West rivals.

The Raiders blocked two punts to get off to a fast start, got a go-ahead touchdown late from Michael Bush and ended seven years of frustration when Tyvon Branch returned San Diego's third fumble of the game 64 yards for the final score of a 35-27 victory Sunday.
