UP NEXT The Colts have their bye this week to work on their shortcomings, then return October 22 with a home date against the Washington Redskins. It will mark the first of three straight games against playoff teams from 2005, as the Colts will then visit Denver and New England. Redskins sign K Novak in wake of Hall's latest injury NFL Football 10/10/2006

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -Nick Novak is taking over from John Hall as the Washington Redskins' kicker for the second time in as many years.

The Redskins signed Novak on Tuesday after the former University of Maryland kicker won a four-way competition among available free agents. He'll handle the kicking duties in Sunday's game against Tennessee.

Hall was placed on injured reserve, ending his season, after the Redskins were forced for the third straight year to find a midseason replacement. Hall had four leg injuri

Henry and White are both expected to play again this week, with the former starter Brown serving as a healthy scratch for the second straight game. UP NEXT The Titans head to the nation's capital next Sunday for a battle with the Washington Redskins. Joe Gibbs' squad is 2-3 after a divisional loss against the Giants last week. The Tennessee franchise is 5-4 all-time against the Redskins, but lost the last matchup, in 2002, to the tune of 31-14.
All tests negative on TE Jeremy Shockey NFL Football 10/10/2006

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -A third day of tests Tuesday found no broken bones in the right foot or ankle of New York Giants Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey, who was hobbled during last Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.

Shockey was forced off the field in the 19-3 win over Washington with what was described as a foot injury. X-rays after the game did not reveal any broken bones. More tests Monday also found no problem.

Shockey had one catch against Washington for 13 yards, giving him a dozen

Allowing big plays the only constant for once steady Redskins D NFL Football 10/10/2006

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -During the offense's spurts and stumbles of the past two years, the Washington Redskins could rely on assistant coach Gregg Williams' smothering, hard-hitting defense.

Not any more. The only consistent thing about the defense in 2006 is the big plays it has allowed in every game.

``We're frustrated,'' cornerback Carlos Rogers said Monday. ``It's something you're mad about. We're all competitors out there, and we hate the fact that we look like that. We've given up so many yards.''

The Redskins come into East Rutherford still riding the wave of their overtime win against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week at FedEx Field.
