Ryan Franklin will get the start for the Mariners Tuesday night as he tries to bounce back from a 9-7 loss to the Blue Jays last Tuesday. He struggled, surrendering seven runs --five earned-- on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings. Franklin, who has lost three in a row, will be making his first career start against the Marlins.
Adrian Beltre recorded his 1,000th career hit on Sunday, and Ichiro Suzuki needs just six more for his 1,000th. Ichiro also needs just 12 more runs for 500 in his career.
Seattle is ranked 13th in the American league with just 38 home runs through 55 games. Richie Sexson lead the team with 13 round trippers, he also leads Seattle in RBI with 44.
Seattle has won each of its last three series, first by closing out their last road trip by winning two of three in Tampa Bay, then taking two of three from Toronto to start the homestand, and then beating the Devil Rays again, taking two of three games to finish their latest homestand. Overall the Mariners are 4-2 in their last six series, winning series against Toronto, Tampa Bay, San Diego and Boston
Seattle is 76-67 since interleague play began in 1997.
FLORIDA (28-26)
The Marlins will send righthander Brian Moehler to the mound tonight, as he tries to get his third win of the season. Moehler was rocked in his last outing, a 9-1 loss to the Pirates on Wednesday, allowing five runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He has lost two straight starts and is winless in three consecutive appearances. Moehler is 5-5 lifetime with a 3.29 ERA in 10 starts against the Mariners. He is 0-2 lifetime in seven games (5 starts) at Dolphins Stadium.
On Sunday, the Marlins lost 6-3 to the Washington Nationals, and were swept for the third time this season. The Marlins, who outhit the Nationals 13-9, were led by Paul Lo Duca, as he finished 3-for-5 and drove in a run for the reeling Marlins, who have dropped 10 of their last 12 games.
The Marlins have outscored opponents 236-212 this season. Florida has outscored opponents 130-94 from the sixth through ninth innings, and have outscored opponents 168-62 in their 28 wins.
Miguel Cabrera has been hot at the plate this season, hitting .347 with 10 home runs, 35 RBI, and 36 runs scored.
Florida is an impressive 80-58 all time in interleague contests.
