Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Cubs re-signed pitcher Antonio Alfonseca to a one-year contract. Terms of the contract were not released, but he does avoid salary arbitration. Alfonseca, who was acquired by the Cubs last season from Florida, pitched in 66 games and posted 19 saves and a 2-5 record. He was acquired with pitcher Matt Clement on March 27 for pitchers Julian Tavarez, Jose Cueto and Dontrelle Willis and catcher Ryan Jorgensen. While he was with the Marlins, Alfonseca made a club-record 274 appearances from 1997-2001. He led the National League in saves with 45 during the 2000 season and he won the Rolaids Relief Man award that year.
