Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - Justin Wilson captured the provisional pole for Sunday's Grand Prix of Portland Champ Car race. The No.9 RuSport Lola driver circled the 1.969-mile, 10-turn road course in a track record 57.597 seconds (122.756 m.p.h.). The Englishman earned one championship point for the provisional pole and a guaranteed front row starting position for the race. American A.J. Allmendinger, Wilson's teammate at RuSport, was second quickest with a best lap of 57.816. Series points leader and defending series champion Sebastien Bourdais (57.825), Paul Tracy (57.911) and Alex Tagliani (57.956) completed the top- five. A total of 17 drivers took to the track including six rookies. "PKV Racing tested at PIR so we have a very good idea of what we need to do to be quick," said Vasser, who was eighth quickest. "I have a very long history at this track going all the way to my Formula Ford days and I have raced here every year of my Champ Car career. I really like the circuit and the area, plus the fans are very knowledge. I usually qualify well in Portland, but it is one of the tracks in the series where I have not won. Hopefully, I can change that this weekend." Final qualifying is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. (edt) with the race scheduled to begin on Sunday at 3:45 p.m.
