(My Sportsbook) - Guard Lindsey Hunter played a valuable reserve role for Milwaukee during the 2000-01 season, when the Bucks went all the way to the Eastern Conference finals before losing to Philadelphia in seven games.
But the Bucks decided not to retain Hunter and the guard signed with the Los Angeles Lakers the following season. After winning a title with the Lakers, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors prior to this year.
Hunter and the under-manned Raptors visited the Bradley Center Tuesday and got the best of the Bucks. Hunter nailed a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime, then scored seven points in OT to lead Toronto to the 122-117 win.
"I kind of like my role as the designated big-shot taker," Hunter said. "We had a sense of urgency. We had to stop the bleeding now, not later. I know we are on the road and they are a really talented team, but we had to have this game."
Hunter finished with 18 points, with 13 coming after the third quarter.
"This is the toughest loss for me this season," Bucks coach George Karl said. "We had plenty of opportunities. We just refused to play defense down the stretch. We played loose with no defensive commitment in the fourth and overtime, and it cost us the game."
The Bucks held a 112-106 lead with just 2:22 left in OT, but the Raptors responded with a 12-2 burst to take control of the game.
With 20 seconds left in the extra session and the Bucks only down one, Hunter was flagrantly fouled by Sam Cassell while the Raptors were on a fast break. Hunter made both free throws and Alvin Williams followed by hitting 1-of-2 foul shots to put Toronto up by four, 118-114. The series sealed the win for the Raptors.
"We had this game, and we should have put it away," Bucks guard Michael Redd said. "But the Raptors stepped up and made some big shots. They got hot on us."
Tuesday's loss was the sixth in the last eight games for Milwaukee, which had fallen to the Chicago Bulls in its previous outing. The Bucks, who are four games below .500 at 10-14, haven't posted back-to-back wins since November 9-13, when they defeated Philadelphia and Chicago in succession.
Milwaukee plays three of its next four games away from home starting Friday in Memphis. The Bucks own just a 3-9 road mark this season.
