Toronto, Ontario (My Sportsbook) - Calgary Flames forward Scott Nichol was suspended for five games by the NHL on Friday for a butt-ending incident during last night's 3-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Late in the third period, Nichol skated behind Hannes Hyvonen and nailed the Columbus forward with a butt-end to the head. Nichol received a match penalty for intent to injure. Nichol, who was suspended for two games in December 2001, is now considered a repeat offender under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Accordingly, he will forfeit $22,865.85 in salary. Nichol has one goal, four assists and 84 penalty minutes in 30 games this season. He is eligible to return on January 2 against Tampa Bay.
