St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - The St. Louis Cardinals kept third baseman Scott Rolen on their roster for the National League Championship Series, giving the team an opportunity to use the All-Star against the San Francisco Giants. Rolen suffered a sprained left shoulder during Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Rolen, while trying to field a grounder, collided with Arizona runner Alex Cintron, who was called out for interference. Earlier in the week, Rolen reported improvement in the shoulder and told manager Tony LaRussa he would be able to play later in the best-of-seven series against the Giants. Miguel Cairo started Game 3 of the NLDS for the Cardinals, who swept the Diamondbacks. Cairo would likely take over at third base if Rolen is unable to start. The Cardinals could also put Albert Pujols at third base. Rolen hit .429 in the Division Series with a homer and two RBI. He batted .266 with 31 homers and 110 RBI during the regular season. Meanwhile, St. Louis officially added pitcher Woody Williams to its roster. Williams is scheduled to start Game 2 on Thursday. Reliever Luther Hackman was removed from the roster.
