San Francisco, CA (My Sportsbook) - The San Francisco Giants signed Gold Glove middle infielder Neifi Perez to a two-year contract, the team announced Sunday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Perez, a 27-year-old Dominican native, was claimed off waivers by the Giants from the Kansas City Royals on November 20. The seven-year veteran owns a .272 lifetime batting average with 47 home runs, 330 RBI, 44 stolen bases, 152 doubles, 54 triples and 478 runs scored in 862 career major league games. He batted .236 with three home runs, 37 RBI, and eight stolen bases in 145 games with the Royals in 2002. "Neifi is an accomplished major league middle infielder who can hit for average, run well and play on either side of second base," said Giants general manager Brian Sabean. "Like a lot of the players we've signed this winter, he'll provide (Giants manager) Felipe (Alou) with a lot of versatility. Neifi has the advantage of being a switch hitter and can steal a base when called upon. He adds depth to our infield on any given day." Perez won a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2000 when he played for the Colorado Rockies. He owns a .977 lifetime fielding percentage, including a .987 mark in 54 games as a second baseman.
