Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Washington Nationals placed first baseman Nick Johnson on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to a right heel contusion. The move is retroactive to June 27. Johnson suffered the injury in last Sunday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. While scoring standing up on Vinny Castilla's double, Johnson stepped awkwardly on home plate. The Nationals listed him as day-to-day after that before finally deciding to place him on the DL. The 26-year-old Johnson is leading the Nationals with a .320 batting average and also has eight home runs and 42 RBI. On Monday, Tomorrow, prior to the series opener versus the New York Mets, the Nationals are expected to select the contract of outfielder Matt Cepicky from Triple-A New Orleans. Cepicky will return to the big leagues for the fourth time in as many seasons, as he played for the Montreal Expos in 2002, 2003 and 2004. He was hitting .274 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI for the Zephyrs.
