Evanston, IL (My Sportsbook) - All five Wolverines starters scored in double- figures, with Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. leading the way as No. 2 Michigan cruised past Northwestern, 94-66, to open up Big Ten conference play. Burke tallied a game-high 23 points to go along with five assists and four steals, while Hardaway Jr. notched 21 points and four assists for Michigan (14-0, 1-0 Big Ten), which shot a strong 13-of-22 from beyond the arc, with Burke and Hardaway Jr. each burying four. In continuing their best start since the 1985-86 campaign, the Wolverines received 12 points and 13 rebounds from Jordan Morgan and 10 points apiece from Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas. For the second straight game, Northwestern (9-5, 0-1) was without its top scorer in Reggie Hearn, who sat with an injured ankle. Jared Swopshire and Kale Abrahamson each netted 11 points and Alex Olah and Tre Demps each put forth 10 for the Wildcats, who had won three of five coming in.
Final Score: (3) Arizona 92, Colorado 83 (OT) Tucson, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Mark Lyons poured in a game-high 24 points to lead third-ranked Arizona to a 92-83 overtime win over Colorado on Thursday. The Wildcats (13-0, 1-0 Pac-12), trailed 56-40 with just under 13 minutes left in the second half, but were able to cut it to 68-61 following a Lyons' trey with just over four minutes remaining. The Buffaloes (10-3, 0-1) were able to push their spread back to 77-68 with 1:49 remaining, but a 10-3 Arizona push made it a two-point game with 33 ticks showing. The Wildcats fouled Jeremy Adams on the inbounds pass, but Adams missed the subsequent free throws to keep Arizona's hopes alive. Lyons was fouled with 10 seconds left and buried a pair from the charity stripe to knot things up at 80-80. Colorado's Sabatino Chen took the ball at the top of the key as the clock wound down, shook a defender with a pair of crossovers, then banked home a 3- pointer as the buzzer sounded. An official, however, determined that the ball was in contact with Chen's fingertips as the final horn sounded. Colorado scored just three points in the bonus period as the Wildcats improved to 13-0 all-time in Pac-12 home openers. Final Score: (10) Gonzaga 78, Pepperdine 62 Malibu, CA (My Sportsbook) - Elias Harris scored 18 points and pulled down six boards as the 10th-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs used a strong second half to down Pepperdine, 78-62, to open up West Coast Conference play. Kelly Olynyk followed with 16 points, while Kevin Pangos and David Stockton each poured in nine for the Bulldogs (14-1, 1-0 WCC), who recorded their 23rd straight triumph over Pepperdine. After posting their best record in non-conference play since the 2004-05 campaign, the Waves (8-6, 0-1) couldn't keep up with the ranked Bulldogs. Lorne Jackson posted 16 points and Jordan Baker tallied 15 in the setback. January 4, 2013, at 12:37 AM ET |
