Edmonton, Canada (My Sportsbook) - A.J. Allmendinger captured the provisional pole for Sunday's inaugural West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton Champ Car race. The No.10 RuSport driver circled the temporary 1.96-mile, Finning International Speedway circuit in a 58.628 seconds (121.150 m.p.h.). Allmendinger earned one championship point for the provisional pole and a guaranteed front row starting position for the race. Teammate Justin Wilson was second quickest with a lap of 58.954 seconds. Paul Tracy (59.497), Oriol Servia (59.592) and Cristiano da Matta (59.769) completed the top-five. After six events, Sebastien Bourdais leads the championship with 150 points, 15 more than rival Tracy (135). After his win last Sunday in Toronto, Justin Wilson is third having accumulated 128 points. "It's always difficult to really know what to expect (at a new venue), but I think the team has proved to be very good at that (in the past)," said 2004 champion Bourdais, who was 10th fastest on Friday. A total of 18 drivers took to the track including six rookies. The top qualifying rookie was Bjorn Wirdheim, who clocked in at 11th fastest. Final qualifying is set for Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (edt) with the race scheduled to begin on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
