Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - The Kansas City Royals signed veteran pitcher Albie Lopez to a one-year contract on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not released. Lopez, who played for the Atlanta Braves last season, recorded a 1-4 mark with a 4.37 earned run average in 30 games during the 2002 campaign. The 10-year veteran has compiled a 43-56 career record and a 4.73 ERA. Lopez also made stops in Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Arizona. Kansas City was eager to sign Lopez after free agent righthander Paul Byrd signed with Atlanta and the club did not tender a contract to righthander Jeff Suppan.
