St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - Chuck Finley and the St. Louis Cardinals will not come to an agreement on a new contract by Wednesday's deadline. The deadline for players who declined arbitration to re-sign with their former team is midnight (et) Wednesday. Without an agreement, Finley will be unable to re-sign with the Cardinals until May 1. It is believed that Finley may choose to sit out until May and sort out the remaining issues in his impending divorce. Finley and actress Tawny Kitaen are battling for custody of the couple's two children. "I'm not sure that it's dead," Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty said of a possible return by Finley. "(Wednesday) is the last day that we're eligible to sign him to have him active at the start of the season. It's not gonna happen." "I think Chuck is trying to put his personal life in order. I think that's first and foremost in his life right now." Finley, 40, has accumulated 200 wins throughout his 17-year career with the Angels, Indians and Cardinals. This past season, Finley came over to St. Louis in a mid-season trade with Cleveland. Finley went 7-4 with a 3.80 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 14 starts with the Cardinals.
