Orlando, FL (My Sportsbook) - The
Indiana Pacers try for their third straight win when they travel to Orlando for a clash with the Magic at TD Waterhouse Centre.
Indiana has won two straight and six of its last eight games. The Pacers are coming off an 89-87 win over the New York Knicks. It was hardly a crisp effort by Indiana, as the Knicks missed three shots on their final possession with the game's outcome hanging in the balance.
Ron Mercer scored 19 points and Reggie Miller added 18 to the victory. Brad Miller finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Jermaine O'Neal tallied 16 points for the Pacers, who avenged a two-point loss in at Madison Square Garden last Friday.
New York's Kurt Thomas got O'Neal in foul trouble and took advantage by scoring 12 of his 24 points in the final stanza. Luckily for the Pacers, the Knicks could not convert in the game's closing seconds -- which has been the case for the struggling franchise most of the season.
"We were dropping straight back into the lane instead of dropping back on e were dropping straight back into the lane instead of dropping back on Thomas," Mercer said. "We adjusted and started dropping back on him."
Indiana is 10-9 on the road and has an 18-5 mark within the Eastern Conference.
Orlando has dropped three of its last four games and is coming off a 91-81 loss to the Houston Rockets. Grant Hill missed his sixth straight game with tendinitis in his ankle. Tracy McGrady scored 27 points on 10-of-26 shooting from the floor.
The Magic were creamed on the boards in the setback. Houston outrebounded Orlando 52-34 in the contest.
In addition to their rebounding woes, the Magic shot just 36 percent from the field.
"We took a lot of mid-range shots, which you should take against a big team, but when they don't fall early each shot becomes tougher," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "I thought by the third quarter our guys were guiding every shot they took."
Orlando is 12-6 at home and has an 11-9 mark within the Eastern Conference.
Indiana captured the first meeting of the season 106-70 at Conseco Fieldhouse on November 22. Home court has been huge in this series, as the host has won nine of the last 10 clashes within the series.
The Pacers have a 28-22 edge in the all-time series.
