Florida Marlins re-signed catcher Mike Redmond and acquired lefthander Mark Redman in a trade with the
Detroit Tigers, the club announced Saturday.
Redmond, 31, posted a .305 average in a career-high 89 games last season with the Marlins. In five major league seasons -- all with Florida -- Redmond has a .297 career average with nine homers and 96 RBI.
The 29-year-old Redman was acquired along with minor-league pitcher Jerrod Fuell in exchange for pitchers Gary Knotts, Nate Robertson and Rob Henkel.
Redman went 8-15 with a 4.21 ERA in 30 starts last season with the Tigers. He finished with a career-best three complete games and 203 innings pitched. In four major-league seasons with the Minnesota Twins and Tigers, Redman has compiled a 23-30 record with a 4.57 ERA in 78 games.
The 22-year-old righthander Fuell collected a 5-4 record with two saves and a 2.34 ERA in 51 games for the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps last season.
Knotts, a 25-year-old righthander, went 3-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 28 games for the Marlins last season. He also split time with AAA Calgary, where he collected a 5-3 record with three saves and a 4.25 ERA in 42 games.
The 25-year-old lefthander Robertson finished with a 10-9 record and a 3.42 ERA in 27 starts for AA Portland last season. He also appeared in six games with the Marlins, and posted an 0-1 record with an 11.86 ERA.
Henkel, 24, recorded a 13-7 record with a 3.16 ERA in 27 games with A Jupiter and AA Portland last season. The lefthander led the Florida minor leaguers in wins and strikeouts (150).
