St. Louis Blues will try for their third straight win tonight when they head to Anaheim to square off against the Mighty Ducks at the Pond.
After topping the San Jose Sharks on Thursday, the Blues claimed a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday to improve to 7-2-1-1 in their last 11 games and moved within two points of the Detroit Red Wings in the Central Division.
Martin Rucinsky and Cory Stillman each scored, while Fred Brathwaite stopped 22 shots for St. Louis, which registered a point for the fourth consecutive game (3-0-0-1). The Blues, who signed Rucinsky as a free agent on October 30, are 9-0-2 when he scores a goal
St. Louis was blanked on the power play (0-for-4) for the third time in five games, after connecting at least once in each of their previous 10 contests.
Brent Johnson will be back between the pipes tonight for the Blues, who will close a five game road trip on Tuesday in Phoenix.
Anaheim comes into Sunday's tilt after defeating the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Petr Sykora scored his second goal of the game on a power play late in the third period to lift the Mighty Ducks to the 5-3 victory. Jason Krog also scored twice for the Ducks, who won for the first time in eight games (1-6-1).
Paul Kariya and Adam Oates each notched a pair of assists for Anaheim, while Keith Carney scored into an empty net to seal the contest. Jean-Sebastien Giguere finished with 36 saves in the triumph.
However, the team lost center Andy McDonald in the game to a concussion. McDonald, fourth on the team with 10 goals and 21 points, will be out for at least a week.
Marc Chouinard, who has sat out the past three games after suffering a broken nose, a strained neck and a concussion in a loss to Philadelphia on January 3, will return to the lineup tonight and take McDonald's spot on the fourth line.
The Ducks, who .will start a three-game road trip following the game, are 9-6-5 at home this season.
Anaheim has taken both meetings with St. Louis this season, but is just 3-9-1 in the last 13 matchups. The Blues are also 10-2-1 in their last 13 on the Ducks' ice.
The road team in this series has won five of the last seven matchups.
