Philadelphia Flyers seek their season- high seventh consecutive victory tonight when they welcome the
Atlanta Thrashers to the First Union Center.
Since ending the year 2002 in a 1-3-1 lull, the Flyers are perfect in '03, including Saturday's 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Michal Handzus collected a goal and an assist and Roman Cechmanek made 21 saves to lead the effort. Radovan Somik and Jeremy Roenick also notched goals for Philadelphia, which remained undefeated (15-0-1) when scoring at least three goals and 16-0-2 when leading after two periods.
Philly is also the only team in the National Hockey League to have achieved five different unbeaten runs of five-or-more games in 2002-03. The Flyers' current winning streak is tied for the third-longest in the league this season.
The Flyers, who lead the Atlantic Division by three over New Jersey with 55 points, are 4-1-1 in their last six home games. They'll host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday in the third portion of a four-game homestand.
Atlanta, meanwhile, is 1-4-1 in its last six games, including Saturday's 7-3 pounding at the hands of the host New York Islanders. Slava Kozlov scored twice and Marc Savard added a goal, but the Isles reeled off five unanswered tallies after falling behind 1-0 early. Byron Dafoe was touched for five goals on 23 shots before yielding to backup Pasi Nurminen to start the third period.
In their last four losses, the Thrashers have allowed a combined 24 goals.
The Thrashers, who are last in the NHL with 28 points, are 5-14-1-2 on the road. They'll play the final installment of a three-game trek tonight, and will host Montreal on Wednesday.
Philadelphia is 10-0-2 in the last 12 meetings with Atlanta, which is 0-4-2 in its last six trips to the First Union Center.
