New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Dallas Stars center Mike Modano has been named NHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 12. Modano had multiple point contests in three consecutive victories as the Stars extended their unbeaten streak to nine games (7-0-2-0). He helped the Stars post three consecutive wins at American Airlines Center, improving their NHL- best home record to 15-1-3-1. Modano had two assists in a 7-4 victory against the Los Angeles Kings January 7 and recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-3 decision over the Chicago Blackhawks. Modano posted three points (two goals, one assist) in a 6-3 win against the Colorado Avalanche. Also named Saturday to an All-Star Game starting berth for the first time, Modano leads the Stars in scoring with 49 points (18 goals, 31 assists) in 43 games and has posted a plus-16 rating. Already the Stars' all-time leader in goals (434), points (1,026), game-winning goals (69) and shorthanded goals (27), Modano needs just one assist and three games to tie franchise records held by Neal Broten (593 and 992, respectively). The Stars have the NHL's longest current undefeated streak and have moved into first place in the league's overall standings with 61 points. Colorado Avalanche right wing Milan Hejduk (six goals, three assists in four games) was also in the running for the honor, as were Ottawa Senators goaltender Patrick Lalime (3-1-0, 2.09 goals-against average, two shutouts) and Nashville Predators goaltender Tomas Vokoun (3-1-0, 1.72 goals-against average).
