Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Rick Short's RBI double started a two-run seventh inning and led the
Washington Nationals to a 2-0 victory over the
San Francisco Giants at RFK Stadium.
Short and Deivi Cruz each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Nationals, who salvaged the finale of the three-game set to snap a four-game losing streak.
Moises Alou ended 2-for-3 for the Giants, who had their win streak halted at five games.
The Giants were playing without slugger Barry Bonds, who was resting after back-to-back impressive games. Bonds hit a home run in his fourth straight game -- his 707th lifetime -- in leading the Giants to a 5-1 win over the Nationals on Wednesday.
San Francisco remained five games behind NL West leader San Diego, which lost to Colorado on Thursday.
Brett Tomko (7-15) was dealt the loss after allowing two runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Washington snapped the scoreless game with two runs in the seventh inning. Ryan Zimmerman singled leading off and scored on a one-out double by Short. Cruz then singled up the middle to drive in Short and chase Tomko from the game.
Jon Rauch (2-4) picked up the win after tossing an inning of scoreless relief in the seventh. Chad Cordero nailed down his 47th save of the season with a perfect ninth.
The Giants nearly grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Alou was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on Todd Linden's base hit.
Hector Carrasco started for Washington and tossed 5 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. He struck out eight and walked four.
