(My Sportsbook) - The
Florida Marlins will try to snap a six-game losing streak Friday when they open a three-game set against the
Atlanta Braves at Dolphins Stadium.
Taking the hill for the Marlins will be Josh Johnson, who will be making his first start of the season. Johnson was called up from Double-A Carolina of the Southern League on September 8, but since being on the roster, has only made three bullpen appearances.
In a relief appearance against the Braves less than a week ago, Johnson tossed four scoreless innings while scattering three hits.
As for the Braves, they will send John Thomson to the rubber this evening, Thomson comes into tonight's contest with just one victory in his last 10 starts. In his last outing, a 6-1 victory over Florida, the righthander allowed one run on four hits in seven innings of work.
Thomson has struggled on the road this season, posting an 0-3 ledger with a terrible 6.75 ERA. This will be the second start of the season for the 31- year-old against the Marlins. In his career against Florida, Thomson is 7-4 with a 4.15 ERA.
On Wednesday, the Marlins were defeated 11-7 by the Washington Nationals in the finale of a three-game set at Dolphins Stadium.
Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Marlins, who have lost six straight and 12 of their last 14 and are in last place in the NL East.
Brian Moehler (6-12) took the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Moehler got the start in place of Josh Beckett, who was shut down for the remainder of the year with shoulder problems.
Moehler has now lost six consecutive decisions, with his last win coming on July 20.
As for the Braves, they were defeated 10-5 by the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a three-game set on Wednesday at Turner Field.
Pete Orr had three hits, while Ryan Langerhans, pitcher Kyle Davies and Andy Marte had an RBI apiece for the NL East-champion Braves, who lost for just the second time in six games.
Atlanta clinched its 14th consecutive division title on Tuesday, a night when the Braves pounded the Rockies, 12-3.
Davies (7-5) was dealt the loss for the Braves, allowing five runs --two earned -- on seven hits.
Atlanta is 10-5 against the Marlins this season and 24-10 versus Florida since the start of 2004.
