(My Sportsbook) - Kevin Garnett is still carrying the
Minnesota Timberwolves, but his load has finally become a little lighter recently.
Garnett has led the team in scoring just once over the past four games, and it came in the Wolves' only loss during the span (Sunday at Toronto). Prior to the stretch, Garnett had been Minnesota's top scorer in the previous 11 contests.
In the Wolves' most recent contest, Anthony Peeler scored a season-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting off the bench to lead the team to an 89-75 win over the Denver Nuggets. Peeler also sank 4-of-7 three-pointers, dished out six assists and collected four steals.
"Any time you give AP that responsibility and give him the ball, he's going to make plays," Minnesota guard Rod Strickland said. "AP's not just a scorer. Watching him play, he's a real good passer. He's able to make plays. He can bring the ball up and make plays on the break. He just had more opportunities to do it tonight."
Both Peeler and Strickland were forced to play increased minutes after starting point guard Troy Hudson suffered a sprained left ankle just one minute into the game. Peeler saw 32 minutes of action, while Strickland collected 14 points and seven assists in 38 minutes.
Hudson is expected to miss Wednesday's game against the LA Clippers, but could return Friday.
"The reason why we can't seem to find some type of consistency is that every other day is something new," said Garnett about Hudson's setback. "This is just a thing to add on to it. Now we have to dig deep, pick up the load, stay focused and continue to play."
Garnett also finished with 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for yet another double-double. Wally Szczerbiak chipped in 10 points as the team improved to 2-1 since the shooting guard's return. Szczerbiak has reached double figures in scoring in each of his three games back after recovering from a foot injury.
"I'm feeling really good," said Szczerbiak. "They're allowing me to play more. I'm trying to stay smart about my minutes and do what I can to help the team."
Denver led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter and owned a 10-point edge early in the third. However, Minnesota held the Nuggets to just 28 total points in the second half, including 10 in the final 12 minutes, to pull away for the win.
The Wolves shot 48.6 percent from the floor for the game, while allowing Denver to shoot just 39.5 percent.
Minnesota embarks on a three-game road trip starting Wednesday in Los Angeles with a matchup against the Clippers.
