St. Paul, MN (My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Wild have announced that veteran defenseman Brad Bombardir will serve as team captain for the month of October. Centers Jim Dowd and Wes Waltz will serve as alternate captains. For Bombardir, who is entering his sixth NHL season, it will be the second time he has been assigned the "C" during his three-year tenure with the team. He previously served as team captain in January and February of 2001, the only Wild player to be named a captain in back-to-back months. "It's great to be recognized as a leader of the team and have the opportunity to wear the "C", especially after the injury struggles I had last year," Bombardir said. Bombardir played just 28 games last season, missing time because of a broken ankle he suffered in a game against the Edmonton Oilers. In those 28 games, he tallied one goal and two assists. The 6-1, 205 pound defenseman appeared in a career-best 70 games for the Wild in the 2000-01 season and recorded career-highs in assists (15), points (15) and penalty minutes (42). For his career, Bombardir has six goals and 30 assists for 36 points in 229 career games for New Jersey and Minnesota. The Wild will continue to rotate their captain on a monthly basis this season, based on the player who has shown the greatest leadership qualities.
