(My Sportsbook) - The
Washington Wizards are hitting their stride as the NBA's season median approaches. A harmonious mixture of youth and experience has Michael Jordan's team slowly ascending in the Eastern Conference.
Washington has won six of its last seven contests and is coming off an 89-84 victory over the New York Knicks. Michael Jordan led the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Jerry Stackhouse added 22 points to the victory.
"Our young kids have the luxury of having enough veteran players to give them the type of information they need, but at the same time it provides us with a chance to win," Jordan said. "Charles [Oakley] came in and made some big free throws and Jerry [Stackhouse] made some big free throws that helped us win."
Jordan will have to carry more of the scoring load Tuesday night against Toronto, as Stackhouse is expected to miss the game with a groin injury.
"They told me a week but I'm taking it day-to-day," said Stackhouse of the injury. "Right now it's bothering me a lot."
Toronto snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 105-91 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. Morris Peterson led the way with 20 points, while Jerome Williams added 17 points and 14 rebounds. Antonio Davis added 17 points and six rebounds to the victory.
Newcomer Rafer Alston, who was signed to a 10-day contract by the Raptors, finished with 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds in his second game with the team.
"I gave them a boost," said Alston. "Guys are down, guys are hurt. I guess that's why they brought me here, to try to give this team a little life."
Alston, who was a member of the NBDL's Mobile Revelers before joining Toronto, scored 17 points against New Jersey on Friday night.
"I thought Rafer did a great job. He pushed the ball up the court and he was beating them off the dribble," Peterson said.
Vince Carter missed his 17th straight game with a knee injury and is expected to be sidelined until at least early February.
Toronto is 4-15 on the road and has a 6-16 mark within the Eastern Conference.
The Wizards are 12-7 at home and have a 15-10 mark within the Eastern Conference.
Washington dropped a season-opening meeting 74-68, then won its second clash with Toronto 95-82 on December 15. The teams will close the season series on February 17 at MCI Center.
