Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Red Sox and free agent infielder Bill Mueller agreed to terms on a two-year deal with a club option for 2005, club senior vice president and general manager Theo Epstein announced on Tuesday. The 31-year-old Mueller owns a .286 career average and an impressive .370 on-base percentage. Mueller is a switch-hitter known for his patience at the plate and consistent glove. He committed only six errors in 104 games this past season with the Giants and the Cubs. Mueller spent the first five years of his career with the Giants before leaving via free agency prior to the 2001 season. However, his 2001 season was cut short by a broken kneecap while attempting to catch a foul ball. Last year, he was forced to miss the first five weeks of the season due to a reoccurring injury.
