(My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA. Despite this fact, many have said the Kings are still the best team in the league.
Couple this with last season's playoff ouster at the hands of the Kings, and the Mavs should be breathing fire Wednesday night at ARCO Arena.
Dallas tries for its seventh straight win when it meets the Kings in a playoff rematch.
The Mavericks have won nine of their last 10 games and have a 15-3 mark within the Western Conference. Dallas has also won four straight and five of their last six road games, most recently a 96-90 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. Steve Nash scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out six assists in the victory. Dirk Nowitzki added 23 points and Michael Finley finished with 21.
"We love close games. We can battle in there, make shots, and at the end we believed in ourselves and won the game," said Nowitzki.
Dallas built a nice cushion, but became complacent before holding on for the win.
"They responded well to us," Nash said. "We made a run in the third quarter and got ourselves a big lead and they came right back at us. We were pretty sloppy, but you have to give them a lot of credit because they definitely stood their ground."
The Mavericks are an impressive 13-3 on the road and 15-3 against teams from the Western Conference.
Sacramento has won 16 of its last 21 games and has a dominant 16-2 record at ARCO Arena. The Kings are coming off a 106-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Peja Stojakovic scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Chris Webber added 22 points and 10 boards to the victory. Mike Bibby ran the offense well, scoring 17 points and handing out six assists.
Stojakovic missed 10 games with foot problems this season and took some time to regain his smooth shooting touch. The past week or so, it's all coming back to him.
"I'm making some shots, I feel good, my confidence is getting back," said Stojakovic, who has averaged 27 points and made 31 of 52 shots the past three games. "This is the first time this season I felt like I moved good."
Stojakovic finished 12-of-19 from the field including three from behind the arc.
It was a crisp effort for the Kings, who had 32 assists and turned the ball over just 12 times the entire game.
If Dallas wants to win tonight, it had better get off to a fast start. The Kings are an NBA-best 22-1 when leading at the half.
The Mavericks won three of the last four regular-season meetings between the teams. The all-time series is tied 52-52.
