Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - Seattle Mariners shortstop Carlos Guillen signed a one-year contract on Thursday worth $2.5 million, avoiding salary arbitration. Guillen, who replaced Alex Rodriguez two years ago, can earn an additional $100,000 in performance bonuses. Guillen finished the 2002 season with a .261 average, nine homers and 56 RBI. In five major league seasons -- all with Seattle -- Guillen has a .260 average with 22 homers and 159 RBI. The 27-year-old infielder was acquired from Houston on July 31, 1998, in the trade that sent Randy Johnson to the Astros.
