San Jose, CA (My Sportsbook) - The
New Jersey Devils target their fifth straight win this evening when they kick off a three-game west coast road trip against the San Jose Sharks at the HP Pavilion.
Patrik Elias scored his second goal of the game to snap a third-period tie and propelled the Devils to a 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in the back end of a home-and-home set on Saturday. The Devils, who posted a 2-1 win at Carolina on Friday, are unbeaten in their last seven (6-0-1).
Turner Stevenson and Michael Rupp each notched a goal and an assist for New Jersey, while John Madden added his 10th goal and Scott Gomez picked up two assists.
Reigning NHL Player of the Week, Martin Brodeur made 18 saves, including one on a penalty shot late in the contest, for New Jersey.
The Devils, who are unbeaten (2-0-1) in their last three road games, will close their trip with stops in Los Angeles and Anaheim.
San Jose, meanwhile, has struggled recently and suffered their second straight loss on Monday with a 3-1 setback to the Phoenix Coyotes.
Owen Nolan scored his first goal since December 26 for the Sharks, who have won just once in their last nine contests (1-5-2-1). Evgeni Nabokov made 22 saves in the setback.
The Sharks, who were 0-for-4 with the man advantage, are mired in a 3-for-51 power-play slump, with their last conversion coming when Vincent Damphousse lit the lamp back on January 11 against Vancouver. That was also their last victory. They have gone 0-for-16 since Damphousse's goal.
San Jose, which is 1-4-2 in its last seven home games, will be starting a brief two-game homestand tonight that winds down Saturday against Minnesota. The Sharks are 8-11-4 at home on the season.
New Jersey has won two straight and three of the last four meetings with San Jose and is 5-2-1 in its last eight trips to the Shark Tank.
