Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a seven- year contract extension with defensive end Patrick Kerney. The deal, which could be voided after five seasons, includes a team-record $8.5 million signing bonus. It could be worth up to $40 million. Kerney recorded a career-high 12 sacks last season. In three games this season he has recorded two sacks and 14 tackles (13 solo). The four-year veteran has played in 51 games for the Falcons, who selected him in the first round (30th pick) of the 1999 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old Kerney, who was to make $885,000 this season, could have become an unrestricted free agent next February.
