Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The Colorado Rockies signed relief pitcher Rich Garces to a minor league contract on Wednesday, and invited him to spring training. Garces, a righthander, spent the past three seasons with the Boston Red Sox. He compiled an 0-1 mark with a 7.59 ERA in 26 games last season. A strained hamstring landed Garces on the disabled list in 2002 before the Red Sox designated him for assignment on July 26. He refused a minor-league assignment and became a free agent. In 156 relief appearances from 1999 to 2001, the 31-year-old Garces went 19-3 with four saves and a 3.11 earned run average. He struck out 153 batters to just 66 walks.
