Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Brandon Whitt captured the pole for Friday night's Chevy Silverado 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway. The No.38 Toyota circled the one-mile oval in a track record 27.439 seconds (131.200 m.p.h.) breaking the old mark of 27.442 seconds set in November 2004 by Jack Sprague. The pole victory was Whitt's second of the season. He won the first truck pole of his career in July at Memphis. Starting on the front row with Whitt will be veteran Johnny Benson who posted a second-best time of 27.496 seconds. Kyle Busch (27.541) and Bobby Hamilton (27.579) will make up row two. Series points leader Ted Musgrave and Todd Bodine, winner of last week's Silverado 350K at the Texas Motor Speedway, will begin fifth and sixth, respectively. Musgrave took another step towards his dream of a Craftsman Truck Series title with a 14th-place finish at TMS. He finished four positions ahead of Dennis Setzer to expand his lead to 63 points (3,279 - 6,216). Setzer will start 18th in the 36-truck field. He has only finished in the top-12 in one of eight events since winning four out of six races in mid- summer. The last two races have seen both challengers struggle. In Atlanta, Musgrave had the better car, but two flat tires and a session with the outside wall left him one-place behind Setzer. Setzer had the better history at Texas, but Musgrave managed to finish ahead of his rival to stretch his lead from 51 to 63 points. The race is set to begin tonight at 8 p.m. (et).
