Toronto, Ontario (My Sportsbook) - The
Toronto Blue Jays will shoot for their third consecutive victory this evening when they continue their three-game set with the
Baltimore Orioles at SkyDome.
Toronto has split its last four contests and has won 11 of its last 14 contests. The Blue Jays continued their success with an 11-1 win over the Orioles on Tuesday.
Carlos Delgado homered twice and tied a season high with five RBI, leading the Blue Jays to the victory. Vernon Wells finished 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, four runs batted in and three runs scored for Toronto. Jose Cruz Jr. ended with a pair of hits, including a two-run blast, in the win.
Roy Halladay (18-7), who has won his last three starts, permitted just one run on four hits in seven innings. Halladay struck out two and did not issue a walk. Brian Bowles tossed a perfect eighth and Jason Kershner got the last three outs to preserve the four-hitter.
Sean Douglass (0-5) suffered his fourth straight loss, allowing seven runs and eight hits in five innings of work. Douglass struck out five and walked three batters. Travis Driskill fared no better in relief. He gave up four runs on four hits in three frames.
Baltimore has lost 27 of their last 31 games overall, and has dropped seven of its last eight contests with Toronto. No Oriole registered multiple hits in the losing effort.
Baltimore will pin its hopes on rookie righthander Rodrigo Lopez this evening. Lopez has lost three of his last four decisions, including a loss to Toronto last week. The Mexican hurler was hammered for nine hits and six runs -- five earned -- over 3 1/3 frames, while fanning five and walking two.
Lopez has struggled against the Blue Jays in his career, going 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA. The 26-year-old has been solid on the road this season, posting a 7-3 mark with a 3.45 ERA in 15 contests.
Toronto will counter with 28-year-old lefthander Mark Hendrickson on the hill. Hendrickson, who used to be a reliever, has won back-to-back starts. The southpaw was outstanding in his last outing, allowing four hits and two runs over eight frames against Baltimore. He fanned six and didn't permit a walk in the winning effort.
Hendrickson has been very good against the Orioles in his career, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.24 ERA. The southpaw is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in eight contests at home.
Toronto has dominated this series in 2002, winning 13-of-17 meetings. The Blue Jays are 25-11 against the Orioles in the last two seasons.
Toronto is 37-39 at home and 39-35 versus the East, while the Orioles are 33-46 on the road and 26-45 within the division.
