Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration with Lou Merloni by signing the infielder to a one-year contract Monday. Merloni is a career .271 hitter in 258 games with the Red Sox. Last year, he batted .247 with 12 doubles, four home runs, 18 RBI, and a .332 on-base percentage in 84 contests. He played six different positions and started games as second base, third base and shortstop. The 31-year-old Merloni was Boston's final arbitration-eligibile player. |
