Santa Clara, CA (My Sportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers waived kicker Jose Cortez on Tuesday and signed safety Marques Anderson to replace him on the active roster. Cortez appeared in one game with the Niners -- his third team this season -- with regular kicker Joe Nedney sidelined with a groin injury. He made two extra points and missed a 34-yard field goal attempt in a 33-22 loss at Tennessee on November 27. Nedney returned to action for Sunday's game with Arizona and Cortez was inactive. The 30-year-old Cortez spent the first seven weeks of the season with Dallas, connecting on 12-of-16 field goal attempts and 13-of-14 extra point attempts for 49 points. After being released by the Cowboys on October 24, he signed with Philadelphia and had three successful extra-point attempts and no field goal tries in four games. Anderson, a four-year veteran, began the year with Denver and appeared in six games with the Broncos before being waived on November 16. He spent his first two NFL seasons with Green Bay, starting 11 games as a rookie in 2002, before being traded to Oakland prior to the 2004 campaign. The 49ers also announced Tuesday that center Jeremy Newberry underwent surgery on his right knee. Newberry had been placed on injured reserve on November 29.
