Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - Former National League MVP Ken Caminiti was ordered to a state-run drug treatment facility by a Texas district judge on Tuesday. Caminiti recently violated the terms of his probation for cocaine possession by testing positive for the substance in a urine sample. Judge William Harmon ordered Caminiti to enter the facility after other alternatives were unsuccessful. Caminiti was supposed to be receiving counseling three times a week, speaking to students about drugs, attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and submitting periodic urinalysis as a result of his probation. The 39-year-old was currently on probation after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine last March. The conviction would have been taken off his record had he complied with the terms of the agreement. In 15 major league seasons, the slugger hit for a .272 average with 239 home runs and 983 RBI. Caminiti was the league's MVP in 1996 with the San Diego Padres, when he batted .326 with 40 homers and 130 RBI. Those numbers were exponentially better than any other year of his career, and Caminiti started a media craze when he told Sports Illustrated last summer that his use of steroids enhanced his performance that season. He also claimed that half of Major League Baseball players used steroids, but later backed off that statement.
