New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Cincinnati Reds lefthanded pitcher Bruce Chen lost his salary arbitration hearing with the club on Thursday. Chen was the first arbitration case of the year. Chen had asked for $830,000, but arbitrators Richard Bloch, Kenneth Perea and I.B. Helburn decided to award Chen with only $700,000 this season. The 25-year-old made $300,000 last year and went 2-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 55 games, while playing with the New York Mets, Montreal and Cincinnati. Chen began the season with New York and was then traded to Montreal on April 5 and later dealt to the Reds on June 14. For his career, Chen is 20-18 with a 4.53 ERA in 139 games. He also had stints with Atlanta and Philadelphia. Reds general manager Jim Bowden is now 8-2 in arbitration hearings. There are currently 17 players that remain in arbitration out of the 72 who had filed. The hearings are scheduled through February 20.
