(My Sportsbook) - Nik Antropov scored at 3:49 of overtime to lift the
Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 victory over the
Tampa Bay Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum. Mikael Renberg and Jonas Hoglund each added a goal and an assist for the Leafs, who have won four straight games.
The Leafs swept through a Southeast Division road trip, toppling Carolina, Atlanta, Florida and Tampa. They outscored the quartette by a total of 17-6.
"If we didn't get the points against the clubs you think we should [beat] it would've been disastrous," head coach Pat Quinn said. "We were playing teams we had to beat to keep our [fifth seed], especially Tampa, which was closing the gap."
Toronto helped itself out with tremendous penalty killing, as the Leafs quelled seven of the Lightning's eight power plays. Quinn's troops rank second in the NHL, behind New Jersey, with an 87.7 percent success rate on the penalty kill.
Ruslan Fedotenko and Dave Andreychuk scored for the Lightning, who have dropped back-to-back contests. Brad Richards assisted on both goals in the setback.
Trevor Kidd made 34 saves for Toronto, while Nikolai Khabibulin turned aside 21 for the Lightning.
Jyrki Lumme carried the puck into the zone on the game-winning goal and dished off to Bryan McCabe, who blasted a slap shot on goal from the center point. Khabibulin made a pad save on the shot, but Antropov was charging at the net and dumped in the rebound.
Renberg had evened the game at 2-2 just 3:53 into the third period. He raced to a loose puck in the slot and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net. The goal came shortly after a Leafs' player had his deflection attempt clang off the left post.
The Leafs grabbed a 1-0 lead at 11:23 of the first period on Hoglund's 10th goal of the year. Renberg's backhand shot from the right circle was stopped, but Hoglund was able to slip the rebound past Khabibulin.
Fedotenko would knot the score with just 1:01 remaining in the opening stanza. Richards was behind the net and sent a pass in front for Fedotenko, who tapped in the puck from the right side of the crease.
Andreychuk gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 3:21 of the second period. Richards attempted a wrist shot from the high slot and Andreychuk, the NHL's all-time leader in power-play goals, was able to deflect the puck between Kidd's pads.
