Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Golden State's Jason Richardson won the slam dunk contest for the second consecutive year as he scored a perfect 50 on his final dunk to beat Seattle's Desmond Mason. Richardson joined Michael Jordan as the only back-to-back winner of the event.
New Jersey's Richard Jefferson scored a 74 out of a possible 100 in his two first round dunks, while Amare Stoudemire of Phoenix totaled a 79 despite missing his second try. His first attempt received a 49 after he went between his legs from the left baseline.
Mason got a score of 90 after his two successful jams. His first dunk was an impression of an old Jordan dunk where he cradled the ball and threw it down one-handed.
Richardson totaled the highest score in the opening round as he got two 50's for the maximum 100 points. On his first attempt he bounced the ball off the floor and did a windmill jam and on his second slam, the defending champion did a 360-spin and emphatically slammed it home one-handed.
Richardson won the competition with a dunk in the finals where took off from the right baseline where he put the ball through his legs in mid-air and with his left hand put in a reverse jam over his head. Richardson ended with 96 points, while Mason finished with a score of 93 in the finals.
Richardson took home $25,000, Mason received $15,000, and Stoudemire and Jefferson each grabbed $10,000.
In other All-Star festivities, Sacramento's Peja Stojakovic won the three- point shootout for the second straight year as he scored 22 points and defeated Memphis' Wesley Person in the tiebreaker round. Stojakovic became the fifth repeat champion of the event, joining Larry Bird, Craig Hodges, Mark Price and Jeff Hornacek.
Jason Kidd won the inaugural skills challenge by completing the obstacle course in a time of 35.1 seconds. In the Hoop-It-Up game, the Los Angeles team of Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Lisa Leslie, Marko Jaric and Aston Kutcher defeated the Atlanta team of Dominique Wilkins, Sheryl Swoopes, Jason Terry and Frankie Muniz 23-19. Golden State Warriors guards Jason Richardson and Gilbert Arenas scored 31 and 30 points, respectively, to lead a Sophomore team of NBA players to a 132-112 victory over first-year players in the Rookie Challenge.
