Vancouver, British Columbia (My Sportsbook) - The
Vancouver Canucks shoot for their first 3-0 start since 1999 tonight when they host the winless
Calgary Flames at GM Place in already the second meeting of the year between the two teams.
The Canucks, who have won nine straight regular-season games and are 9-0-1 in their last 10 overall dating back to the 2001-02 campaign, used two goals from Trent Klatt to upend the San Jose Sharks, 5-3, on Saturday.
Vancouver blanked the Flames, 3-0, in both team's season-opener on Thursday. Dan Cloutier made 22 saves in the victory for the Canucks on Saturday after stopping 19 shots against Calgary in the opener.
After San Jose had knotted the game at 3-3, Klatt's second goal of the game gave the Canucks the lead for good with 4:37 left in the contest. Daniel Sedin's cross-ice feed to the low slot found Klatt, who beat a defender and -- from his knees -- poked the puck past San Jose goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.
Matt Cooke's empty-net goal with 40 seconds remaining in the contest accounted for the 5-3 final and the win for the Canucks, who wrap up a three-game homestand on Wednesday against Boston.
Vancouver has won seven of the last nine with the Flames, but has dropped two of its last three to Calgary on its home ice.
The Flames, who hit the road for the first time this season after two losses at the Saddledome, were dealt a 5-4 setback to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
Martin Gelinas scored two goals and added an assist for the Flames, who scored three goals on three two-man advantages. Goaltender Roman Turek finished with 29 saves in the loss for Calgary, which scored four goals in the second period, but could not hold on for the win.
Calgary forward Craig Berube, who started his career in 1986 with the Flyers, played in his 1,000th NHL game and was honored before the contest. Berube joined Dale Hunter as the only two players in NHL history to record 1,000 games and 3,000 penalty minutes.
Jarome Iginla, who led the league last season with 52 goals and 96 points, netted his first goal of the season in the loss for Calgary, but took a crucial penalty in the third period that led to a Flyers goal.
Calgary was 12-21-7-1 on the road last season.
The Flames, who are 8-5-1 in their last 14 at Vancouver, have dropped four of their last six at GM Place.
