Baltimore, MD (My Sportsbook) - The Baltimore Orioles signed outfielder B.J. Surhoff to a minor league contract on Wednesday that included an invitation to spring training. The 38-year-old Surhoff played just 25 games with the Braves last season before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee fielding a fly ball. After several workouts for the Orioles, Surhoff proved healthy enough for a contract. A 16-year Major League veteran, Surhoff was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers as the top overall pick in 1985 from the University of North Carolina. He spent his first nine big league seasons with the Brewers before coming to Baltimore as a free agent prior to the 1996 season. Baltimore traded Surhoff to Atlanta in 2000. Surhoff is a .281 career hitter with 170 home runs and 1,028 RBI.
