New Orleans Hornets try to stay above .500 Wednesday when they welcome the
Washington Wizards to New Orleans Arena.
The Hornets have lost three of their last four games and are fresh off a 99-94 setback to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday.
Jamal Mashburn paced New Orleans with 20 points. David Wesley contributed 17 points, eight boards and six assists for the Hornets, while teammate P.J. Brown collected 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Stacey Augmon's basket with 5:09 left in the fourth quarter staked New Orleans to a seemingly comfortable 89-77 lead. Orlando then responded with a 12-0 run to tie the game at 89-89 with 2:15 remaining. The Magic scored seven of the game's next nine points to steal the victory.
George Lynch had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Hornets, who outrebounded Orlando, 50-34.
New Orleans is 19-9 at home this season and 17-16 against the Eastern Conference.
The Wizards have lost two of their last three and hold the eighth position in the Eastern Conference by just one-half game. Washington had its home game against Toronto postponed on Monday due to the massive East Coast snow storm.
Most recently, Washington suffered a 109-77 defeat to the Jazz in Utah on Friday.
Larry Hughes had a team-high 14 points for the Wizards. Etan Thomas added 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Michael Jordan chipped in 11 points in his last regular-season appearance at the Delta Center.
The Wizards were without leading scorer Jerry Stackhouse for the fifth straight game because of a left groin injury. He is expected to start Wednesday.
Washington shot just 36 percent from the field and was outrebounded by Utah, 47-33.
The Wizards are 8-17 on the road this season and 18-16 against Eastern Conference opponents.
This is the final meeting between the Wizards and Hornets this season. These teams have already met twice this year, with Washington claiming a 103-94 road win on January 22 before New Orleans captured a 109-104 win at MCI Center. Washington is attempting to win its first season-series with the Hornets since the 1989-90 campaign.
Washington has dropped its last five road games against the Hornets.
