Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - The
New York Knicks continue their six-game road trip with a stop at KeyArena tonight for a clash with the Seattle SuperSonics.
New York posted impressive victories over Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers to open the jaunt, but suffered a 99-91 loss to Portland its last time out. Allan Houston led the way with 27 points, while Kurt Thomas chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. Latrell Sprewell finished with 16 points and Howard Eisley handed out 12 assists in the losing effort.
"We were in good position to start this road trip, we just let this one slip away," Houston said. "We didn't make the adjustments. They took us out of our plays and we never got into a rhythm offensively."
The Knicks are currently two games behind the Washington Wizards for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. New York is 8-15 on the road and has a 10-8 record against Western Conference foes.
Seattle has dropped six straight games, most recently a 101-96 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Predrag Drobnjak led Seattle with 23 points and Gary Payton added 19 points and seven assists to the losing effort.
"I thought we were pretty aggressive going to the basket," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "I thought we played a real good game, to be able to fight back and get back into the game and have a chance to win this game."
The Sonics are 5 1/2 games out of the Western Conference playoff picture with three teams ahead of them. Seattle is 10-12 at home and has a 9-14 mark against teams from the Eastern Conference.
Both of these teams have been mentioned prominently in trade discussions, with the deadline just over 24 hours away. Payton is rumored to be on his way out of Seattle, while Sprewell is being shopped by New York.
New York captured the first meeting of the season 97-80 at Madison Square Garden on December 10. The Knicks have won four straight and seven of the last nine meetings between the teams.
The Knicks have a 55-44 edge in the all-time series.
