Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax has broken ties with the Los Angeles Dodgers because he was reportedly upset about a gossip item that ran in the New York Post in December. The Post is owned by News Corp., which also owns the Dodgers. The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Koufax informed the Dodgers he would no longer be at the team's spring training, visit Dodger Stadium or become involved in any of the club's regular season activities. The Times reported Koufax will no longer be involved with the Dodgers because of an item that ran in the New York Post, which apparently intimated that he is homosexual. There was a two-sentence item that ran in the New York Post on December 19. Koufax was never named by the Post as being homosexual, but the newspaper reported a "Hall of Fame baseball hero" had "cooperated with a best-selling biography only because the author promised to keep it secret that he is gay. Koufax is the subject of Jane Leavy's biography, "Sandy Koufax: A Lefty's Legacy." The book was published last September. Koufax is a legendary lefthander who pitched for the Dodgers from 1958-66 and had four dominating seasons for the team from 1963-66.
