Buffalo, NY (My Sportsbook) - A night after getting embarrassed to begin their road trip, the
Los Angeles Kings hope to rebound when they visit the
Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena.
Los Angeles suffered a 5-0 loss in Philadelphia Thursday to begin a five-game swing. Jamie Storr, who is the starter with Felix Potvin sidelined, was pulled in favor of rookie Cristobal Huet to start the third period after allowing two goals on 20 shots. Head coach Andy Murray had hoped inserting the youngster would spark his club.
With the loss the Kings, who have 58 points, sit 10th in the Western Conference -- seven behind the eighth-place Edmonton Oilers. Phoenix and Nashville are only a point behind LA.
Thursday's shutout ended Zigmund Palffy's nine-game points streak. Palffy, whose name has been popular in the trade rumor mill, contributed seven goals and seven assists during the tear.
The Kings, who had won three of their last four games entering their matchup in Philly, have now dropped seven of their last eight away from home. They'll visit Detroit on Monday.
Buffalo, meanwhile, has won two of its last three games (2-0-0-1) on the heels of an 0-6-0-2 skid. On Wednesday the Sabres defeated Montreal, 2-1, in overtime at HSBC Arena. Miroslav Satan scored 3:49 into the extra frame to provide the heroics, netting his 20th goal of the season.
Vaclav Varada also tallied, in his first game back from a knee sprain that sidelined him for 17 games. Rookie Ryan Miller finished with 25 saves.
Satan, who has been a rare bright spot for the Sabres this season, has now reached the 20-goal plateau for the seventh straight season. He has two goals in his last three games after going through an eight-match drought.
The Sabres, with 46 points, remain last in the NHL's overall standings -- two behind Atlanta. Buffalo does hold a game in hand over the Thrashers.
Buffalo, which has won two consecutive home contests, will kick off a three- game road trip Sunday in Tampa.
Los Angeles has won two straight meetings with Buffalo after a series losing streak of the same span. The Kings have, however, lost in five consecutive trips to Buffalo, dating back to March 15, 1993 at the old Memorial Auditorium.
