Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Stars will try for their best start since opening the 1996-97 campaign with six wins when they host the
Edmonton Oilers at the American Airlines Center on Tuesday.
After skating to a 1-1 tie with the Colorado Avalanche in its season-opener, Dallas has responded with back-to-back wins against Anaheim and Phoenix by a combined 9-4 score.
On Saturday the Stars got a goal and an assist from Darryl Sydor and Pierre Turgeon to topple the Coyotes, 5-2. Ulf Dahlen, Bill Guerin and Rob DiMaio scored a goal apiece for Dallas, which scored four times in the third period to take the victory.
Guerin capped off a big first week by getting honored with NHL Player of the Week honors on Monday. He leads the league in points (six) and is tied for the lead in goals (three), assists (three) and power-play goals (two) after signing with the Stars this summer as a free agent.
Ron Tugnutt turned aside 22 shots in his debut for the Stars, who should have Marty Turco back between the pipes after a game's rest.
Dallas eliminated the Oilers from the playoffs in four straight seasons until the Stars had a streak of five straight postseason appearances stopped last year. The Stars have dominated Edmonton at home in recent years, as they are unbeaten in the last 13 meetings (12-0-1) in Dallas and 15-1-2 since moving to Texas from Minnesota in 1993. The Oilers managed a 1-1 tie last season after losing 12 straight in "Big D".
Edmonton is also undefeated on the season after a 3-2 win over Nashville on Saturday.
Mike Comrie buried the game-winning goal midway through the third period and Ryan Smyth and Eric Brewer also scored for the Oilers, who earned their first win of the season after skating to a 2-2 tie with Philadelphia in their season-opener on Thursday.
Tommy Salo turned away 29 of the 31 shots he faced, including all 11 of Nashville's attempts in the final period. The Edmonton netminder saved his best effort for last, as he sticked away a Scott Walker wrister from point- blank range with 15 seconds left in the game.
Dallas is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings, 11-2-3 in the last 16 and 21-3-3 in the last 27.
